On January 22nd, 2014, the State Grid issued the first batch of centralized bidding for the company's substation project in 2014, with a total of 443 transformers. By the end of 2013, the State Grid had conducted six batches of transformer bidding, with a total of 4262 sets. Through the prospective analysis of the bid winning of the Sixth Batch of 500~750kV transformers in 2013, it is found that foreign-funded enterprises occupy a large market share in the field of high-voltage transformers

State Grid transformer bidding

On January 22nd, 2014, the State Grid issued the first batch of centralized bidding for the company's substation project in 2014, with a total of 443 transformers. By the end of 2013, the State Grid had conducted six batches of transformer bidding, with a total of 4262 sets.

According to the analysis report on market demand forecast and investment strategic planning of China's transformer manufacturing industry from 2013 to 2017 released by the forward looking Industry Research Institute, the number of tenders for 35kV and below and 110 (66) kV Transformers issued by the State Grid in 2013 was the largest, 1762 and 1665 respectively, 244 for 500~750kV transformers and 591 for 220~330kV transformers. In terms of batches, the number of 500~750kV transformers in the fifth batch of bidding is the largest, 94 sets.

500 ~ 750kV transformer bid winning enterprises

The transformer industry in China presents a pyramid structure. The higher the voltage level, the stronger the technical barriers, the fewer manufacturers and the higher the degree of monopoly. Zhujianmei, an analyst at the forward looking Industry Research Institute, selected the bidding situation of the Sixth Batch of 500~750kV transformers of the State Grid in 2013, and analyzed that in the high-voltage transformer market, foreign-funded enterprises occupy a large market share. With advanced technology and management advantages, they quickly seize the domestic market and have strong competitiveness.

Specifically, among the Sixth Batch of 500~750kV transformer winning enterprises of the State Grid in 2013, Chongqing ABB Transformer Co., Ltd., Changzhou Toshiba Transformer Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Siemens Transformer Co., Ltd. accounted for 16.47%, 10.59% and 8.24% respectively, with a cumulative share of more than 35% and a relatively high market share.

On the whole, China's transformer manufacturing enterprises are mainly focused on the manufacturing of low-voltage transformers. There are many enterprises in this field and the competition is fierce. In the manufacturing of high-voltage transformers, foreign multinational companies have seized a large market share, especially abb, Toshiba, Siemens, etc. domestic enterprises, such as baobian, Tebian, xibian and other large enterprises, have formed a competitive pattern to compete with foreign enterprises by improving the technical level and grade of their products.
